I ♥ House of Hackney

Maison & Objet 2013

Got to see one of my fave fabric houses- House of Hackney- at M&O last month and I was swacked! The House of Hackney knows that food, interiors, fashion and are intimately linked to each other with the boundaries between then almost unrecognizably blurred.  They have used this knowledge to build a comprehensive brand – HOH doesn’t just do fabrics- they have pillows, china, lighting, accessories, furniture, you name it.  To them more is more; better yet,  more is better.

After a living with a decade of minimalism, the British firm, conceived by couple Frieda Gormley and Javvy M Royle,  is on a quest to take the beige out of interiors. Described as ‘Colefax and Fowler on acid’  brand is characterized by prints that are steeped in tradition, but are also bold and non -conformist.

I love that House of Hackney takes traditional and turns it on its head.  I love the label’s playful irreverence to home décor. I love the brutal mixing Even more, I love that the House of Hackney offers a bespoke curtain service. Oh so British!

Speaking of  quintessential English prints being turned on end –  Dalston Rose is a masterpiece. A luxury cotton chintz featuring an English rose with a contemporary dip dyed ombre effect.

This design has  a full repeat of over 130 inches including ombre top and bottom.

Finally, English gin brand Bombay Sapphire and House of Hackney collaborated on a House of Hackney designed Bombay Sapphire bottle- a match made in heaven.
