OMG! My wonderful Workroom friends, master seamstresses and textile artisans- Steal this Idea!

Harriet Riddell is an installation artist with a sewing machine. A seamstress in the UK, Riddell has taken her skills to a whole new level. Sewing machine in tow, Riddell becomes an art installation for any occasion. What that means is an artist  working hard behind her sewing machine, the noise of the needle making art; and the end result that evokes memories and stories. Bringing her machine in tow, and interacting with her surroundings,  Riddell  captures personalities, movement and atmosphere into an illustrative tapestry sewn as a memento. OK, so what does that mean for my friends?

She took her skill as a seamstress and markets herself as an “event” ( she even does weddings!).  Last week she brought her sewing machine to Anthropologie and sewed portraits and collages of the people and vignettes happening around her. How cool!  Imagine would it be to sew the rendering of the window treatment, interior or inspiration of your project for your client? Amazing… but better yet couldn’t you see yourself at Brimfield or ABC Carpet and Home doing an event. This idea hits all the interior trend touch points of the moment- craftsmanship, authentic, experience, backstory ….

Bottom line: cha  ching!
