I am Founder and Editor of Design Confidential, Deb Barrett, an award winning designer who has built a reputation as a window covering expert, professional speaker, trend consultant and new media author.  As the principal in Window Dressings, Inc., a couture window treatment and soft furnishings firm near Chicago, Illinois. My design career has taken many paths, but my penchant for creating gorgeous windows has never wavered.  My fascination with what’s around the corner and search for inspiration has led me to my current roles as trend strategist, designer and design blogger.

Writing about design on a daily basis  for Design Confidential and traveling keeps me in the loop when it comes to design and trend topics. Look for posts highlighting my travels to design shows with special sections covering international and national design shows, visits to the  ateliers and studios where today’s trendsetters create.

What’s My Story?

My passion for design began growing up in the Wisconsin where my mom and grandmothers passed on their interest in the art of gracious living. They introduced me to the decorative and home arts early; teaching skills like sewing, rosemaling, decorating, and slipcovering. My first job was sorting inventory in the family business- a job that was the spark that fueled my entrepreneurial spirit.

I knew early on that design and fashion was in my blood- turning my eighth grade science project into a treatise on the modern American home of 1968. Following college and a degree in fashion merchandising, I did a 10 year stint in the corporate world at one of the nation’s top retailers. I have combined my twin passions-design and windows- when I founded Window Dressings, my couture soft furnishings firm. The entrepreneurial lifestyle allows me the freedom to work remotely, maintain close contact with clients and friends, and connect with creative types worldwide.
